Production Engineer

This is an exciting opportunity for a Production Engineer to join a fast-growing technology company based in downtown Santa Barbara, CA. Riptide offers cloud-based commercial building management solutions to control energy usage and equipment operations. Riptide’s application delivers analytics, diagnostic tools and notification systems to empower commercial real estate facilities teams. It connects existing and new systems for controlling HVAC, lighting, metering and sensor networks via web and mobile apps.

Job Description

  • Install, maintain, modify and repair systems in the Riptide internal lab & workshop.
  • Manage assembly of hardware components (embedded gateway, enclosure panel and more).
  • Works with remote engineers & technicians to ensure Riptide equipment is properly installed.
  • Configuration and programming of Riptide edge and cloud systems under supervision of project engineers.
  • Undertakes planning of production related tasks.
  • Ensure quality standards are met at all times.
  • Facilitate shipping, receiving and inventory of materials and Riptide products.
  • Ability to follow electrical and/or mechanical assembly instructions.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Electrical/Mechanical experience.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and develop plans to execute to satisfy daily operational needs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products and Google web apps.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize, multi-task, and effectively interact with others inside and outside of Riptide.
  • Understand of electronic components and their functions, computers and networking.
  • Skills on assembling of electronic and electro/mechanical device.

This job operates in a fun and casual lab/workshop environment. This role will use tools needed to repair and assemble equipment (screw gun, hand tools, etc.) combined with technology (networking and computer skills).

BMS Software Technician

What You’ll Do:

A BMS/BAS Software Technician works directly with the Riptide project team. Activities will include project configuration, programming, startup, troubleshooting, commissioning and service. Hands-on activity may involve minor wiring (low-voltage) and panel fabrication.

Functions and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Manage multiple projects and communicating status and/or risks to project team.
  • Building systems integration and configuration.
  • Commissioning, graphics, programming, test and startup.
  • First level support including investigating issues and implementing corrective action.

Technical Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of BACnet and Modbus communication protocols.
  • Basic knowledge of control programming and graphics for control systems.
  • Basic knowledge of field wiring and terminations.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC systems and temperature controls (DDC).

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the concepts of new construction, retrofit and service projects.
  • Knowledge of the principles of heating and air conditioning and major components.
  • Understanding of the basics of HVAC controls (DDC)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Understanding of electricity and electrical principles.

Experience:

  • HVAC installation & service: 2 years (Required)
  • BMS/BAS/DDC controls programming: 1 year (Preferred)

Sales Engineer West Coast, Central and East Coast

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with customers to solve sales, technical and application matters related to building controls, energy, HVAC and enterprise facility management
  • Anticipate and respond to customers to ensure overall customer satisfaction with Riptide’s product and service offerings
  • Build and foster relationships with strategic partners
  • Generate proposals from a range of work documents
  • Accompany sales team on technical visits to end-user and partner sites
  • Create technical sales and training presentations
  • Work with HVAC partners to develop controls strategies and KPI’s
  • Manage pilot projects for new customers, and refine the process as you go – creating a best practices guide for future pilots
  • Pilot project management includes working with the end-user to identify pilot locations; working with the end-user to determine success plan for pilots; working with internal services group to hire installation contractors; manage installation and start-up of the pilot project; training contractors and end-users; and periodically reporting the status of the installed project to the end-user as well as tracking project success

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) and preferably a minimum of 1-3 year experience in a similar role or 5+ year experience in building controls, HVAC
  • Proficiency with PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
  • IT savvy; networking experience a plus
  • Comfortable building documents using Visio or similar vector graphing tools
  • Ability to read blueprints and complete on-site surveys
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve and succeed in unstructured environment
  • Fearless, self-reliant, and highly self-motivated personality with great time management skills and a focus on consistent execution

Mechanical Engineering Majors: Students with HVAC courses complete and who have an interest in smart buildings. Best candidates have a background in sales engineering roles or ability to develop technical materials.

Marketing or Business Related Majors: Students with marketing, economics, and journalism who can help apply their skills in these areas: digital marketing, customer relationship management, financial forecasting and/or writing.
